Prehistory
The first aerobatic team in Korean Air Force (South Korea) is established in October 1953, flying with P-51 Mustang airplanes. The team exists till 1958.
In 1962 is formed Blue Sabre aerobatic team, flying with four specially painted F-86 Sabre planes and exist till 1967. This team change planes colors several times trought the years.
In 1968 the Blue Eagle aerobatic team is formed, flying with six specially painted F-5A Freedom Fighter airplanes. The team exists till 1978.
Blue Eagles History
On 12 Dec 1994 is formed Black Eagles, like an official aerobatic display team of a Korean Air Force. The team starts to fly with six Cessna A-37B Dragonfly jet training planes. The team is from 238th squadron from 8th squadron wing based on Wonju airbase. Black Eagles first demonstration is on 25 Sep 1995.
On 8 May 1998 during training flight two of the team's planes collided in the air, as one the planes crashed killing leader of the Black Eagles, while other plane landed with minor damages.
On 5 May 2006 during Seoul Air Show, one of the team's plane crashed killing the pilot.
At the end of 2007 season the Black Eagles are temporary disbanded, because the Air Force bring out of service A-37 planes. They will be established again in 2010 after the first of the new Korean built jet trainers KAI T-50 is delivered.
