Two Surya Kiran Hawk Mk.132 aircraft collided in mid-air practicing for Aero India airshow at Yelahanka Air Base in Bengaluru. The crash occurs at 11:50 local time, when two of the team’s aircraft collided performing mirror pass or Calypso pass (as it named in Thunderbirds routine). In this maneuver one of the aircraft fly on top of the other but inverted.
In this incident, the inverted aircraft has one pilot as the other – two pilots.
Both aircraft collided as the nose of the inverted aircraft was badly damaged from which the pilot did not succeed to eject. The two pilots of the first aircraft managed do eject, as the other pilot involved in the crash did not and died.
A civilian on the ground was also injured in the mishap as the planes crashed near a populate area.
The show is to be held from February 20- 24, 2019 at Yelahanka Air Base in Bengaluru.
