The Japan Air Self-Defense Force acrobatics team Blue Impulse performed today a flyover central Tokyo to honor healthcare workers who have been at the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The 20-minute flyover started about 12:40 p.m. at the capital’s downtown areas, where all six T-4 aircraft of the Blue Impulse team trailed a white smoke. They also flew over some of the hospitals that are treating coronavirus patients.
Japan has 16,759 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 882 deaths, as of today morning, according to public broadcaster NHK.
"A lot of people, including medical workers, are working hard to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We would like to pay our respect and express our appreciation," Defense Minister Taro Kono said ahead of the flight.
