Yellowjacks

History

Yellowjacks was the Royal Air Force aerobatic display team.

The team was formed in 1964 flying five yellow-painted training Folland Gnat aircrafts from Fourth Air School. All team's planes were equipped with white smoke generators. The aim was to demonstrate the abilities of this new UK built airplane in Farnborough Airshow. For the commander of this team was appointed the ex-Black Arrows member, Fl. Lt. Lee Jones. The team was called Yellowjacks from the pilot's call-signs and existed until 1965.

The Yellowjacks is the Red Arrows precursor.
