Russian Knights crashed today, killing team leader, 45 years old Colonel Igor Tkachenko. He had more than 2,500 hours of flying experience. He was married and had a son and daughter. The two Russian Knights - Su-27 and Su-30 collided in mid-air during practice flight in preparation for the MAKS 09 airshow beginning this week. Nose of the Su-30 colide with the leader's exhaust. All three pilots ejected safely in low altitude, but Tkachenko's parachute caught on fire and he dies. Other two pilots from two-seat Su-30, receives minor injuries. The jets had taken off from the Zhukovsky airfield southeast of Moscow and crashed over the near village injuring five people on the ground. The reason probably is a one of the pilots mistake. Sadly this maybe will be the end of the Russian Knights, while now their composition is four planes. (Thanks to Renato Gomes).
